The creation of a bespoke joinery façade for a high-end restaurant refurbishment at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, home of The Championships, Wimbledon
PROJECT AIM
To extend and refurbish an existing eatery into a new restaurant for the Members of The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, including a new façade.
We were responsible for the design of the new entrance to the Members' Enclosure and the new façade for the Members' Brasserie as the first phase of our designs to sustainably refurbish the Millennium Building on the site of The Championships, Wimbledon.
OUR CONCEPT
The new façade seeks to respect the existing Millennium Building of which it is part, whilst maximising light and air into the restaurant.
It reflects the rich heritage of the Club in the materiality and attention to detail whilst performing to high modern standards.
THE DESIGN
In order to remain sympathetic to the existing building and wider Championships site, we developed a new timber façade with external planters, that marries bespoke joinery with exceptional performance.
New automated entrance doors and high level opening windows are integrated into the timber framed glazing system, with intelligent concealed mechanisms.
Traditional detailing is paired with improved sightlines to maximise natural light and views.
The design is configured to allow equal access for all with level thresholds. Fine metal detailing complements the timber façade inside and out.
The planters are designed to accommodate the sloping ground and to be easily removed for maintenance, whilst performing to the exacting requirements of the Wimbledon Grounds Team responsible for the landscaping.
